Christmas Points to Christ
I was perusing a store with my family last night looking at Christmas decorations and noticed this ornament. It, of course, is intended to remind us all that Santa is making his list and checking it twice. Now, I can’t guarantee whether you’ve been naughty or nice, but it certainly made me think of something completely different.
I’m often disturbed by the direction that we’ve taken a celebration of the beginning of salvation. I’ve recently become more and more aware and sensitive to this as I seek to live a spirit-filled life, and am amazed at how much materialism and selfishness we force into the Christmas season. I know it’s all been said before, and I don’t want to come across as a holier-than-thou curmudgeon, so I won’t go any farther with this argument.
What do you really want for Christmas?
We all enjoy the giving of gifts and the celebration with family and friends, as long as we don’t lose sight of why it all started in the first place. So, what things are you hoping for this Christmas? (feel free to comment below!) It, of course, doesn’t have to revolve around your wants, but can involve your needs and desires. Remember:
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires. ~Psalm 37:4 NLT~
The Ultimate Gift
“If you don’t believe, you won’t receive,” or so the ornament tells us. But think how true this really is. By believing in the sovereignty and majesty of our God, we receive the greatest gift of all: His grace! And it all started with the sacrifice of the part of Himself that he sent to Earth in order to redeem us.
